SEARCH RESULTS FOR: lake wakatipu

A storm over the Glenorchy end of Lake Wakatipu causes dramatic light rays to reign down on the landscape. It was an amazing afternoon beside the lake, watching the storm clouds roll in and out, and the light rays dance across the landscape. I was with a couple of friends, and we spent about two hours here taking photos and watching the drama unfold. This image featured in New Zealand Camera (the annual book produced by the Photographic Society of New Zealand (PSNZ)) in 2024. This diptych shows two versions of a willow tree in a lake at sunset: one photo taken during golden hour where the suns last rays give a golden glow across the willow branches, and one taken as the sun is setting with beautiful hues in the sky in the background and a silhouetted willow tree. There were Pied Shags, Phalacrocorax   varius, roosting in the tree at various stages over the course of the evening. Both images were taken using a neutral density filter to smooth out the water giving it a soft and dreamy appearance. To View More >>
